Is a routine really worth it? Is it worth it to discipline ourselves to a place where everything fits into a time block of the day? It’s important to understand the type of personality you have, may it be a “Go with the flow” or an “Organized” person by nature – in order to find out the kind of routine that could work for you. Each personality discipline will look vastly different.
We are all unique and made up of traumas, emotions, and cultural views that determine what needs to fit into our everyday. However, we are all humans and share strong commonalities in the things we do need in a day’s time. Elements like food, water, & shelter. These three things provide the foundation for immediate human needs when we feel hungry, thirsty, or scared.
Think about your own day-to-day and try to come up with a list of 5 things you do, every single day. It may be brushing your teeth, using a face wash or hair product, making a cup of coffee, exercising, eating dinner with family, etc. Once you have thought through these things that you do in a day’s time – generalize the time of day that each of these actions happens.
Now we are getting somewhere. Hopefully, you have been able to pull together 5 things you do at a similar time each day. If you thought you were a person without a routine, this should make you proud! An important thing to consider when developing a routine for your day – “Grace Moments”. These “Grace Moments” act as a barrier between your ego and your actions that you may have missed or forgotten to take care of. Life happens. Life comes in seasons and things that we may have done the same for years, could be shifted overnight, and it is imperative to give ourselves grace through those adjustments.
At Empathic Practice we create an opportunity for you to sit down, one-on-one, and create this vision of a routine for yourself. It essentially is an unveiling of yourself and what you do on a day-to-day basis, paired with finding the things you love and the things you wish to change. We are all humans here and have experienced similar situations – if not some that are exactly the same. By creating time and space to draw attention to the self, transformation is able to happen in places that didn’t even seem that they needed it.
Depending on what your needs are, and the changes you are hoping to see within yourself – we create a general framework for a routine that will shift your life for the better. Ultimately you are the one driving the ship & we are just the crew to facilitate and help you get to where you want to go. If you are unhappy with the way things are working, we respond and shift to try something different. Routines cannot be a forced change. An open mind is essential through this process. With time and small steps in a similar direction, this routine will start to become more natural. As with most new things, it takes practice. It takes a reminder that “This is good for me, and this will make my life move more smoothly.” In a chaotic and fast-moving world, it is essential to have ourselves grounded where we are – equipped with the self-awareness needed to move through it all.
There are ways to track progress through newly developed routines. Find what works best for you. If you have never been someone to write down in a planner, maybe stick to something that fits better into your daily flow, something that is more accessible like a small notebook or an app. If planning a routine has been a long-term goal of yours, and you are finding it hard to connect with one that works for you, our team at Empathic Practice is here to help. It is our mission to make healthier well-being more accessible to everyBODY.
Make it a part of your routine to take care of yourself. Make it a part of your routine to nourish yourself with the good things in life. The best time to get started is right now, right where you are. Our team at Empathic Practice can’t wait to meet you and learn how we can better support your journey.
